Bathroom Work bathtub Refinishing Canada Abbotsford
I found this company on Google. When I first contacted them, Dave picked up the phone. I tried to stress the fact that my bathroom sink and countertop (all one piece) has a very glossy finish. I asked him if he will be able to refinish it at a similar level of glossiness and smoothness. He said sure. No problem. He said regardless of how small the job is, he charges minimum $300 for a job. I said ok. We agreed on a date and time. Everything seemed straightforward at first.
Then Dave decided not to show up on our appointment date because apparently he was working somewhere else that day. So he sends his son to do it. The son is a good guy, but he is quite inexperienced. He did not have the proper equipment either (i.e. the fan hose was not long enough, so he spend a lot of time trying to extend it by wrapping paper around it). After around 4 hours he finishes spraying and removes all protective coverings. As he was packing his things to leave, I noticed significant imperfections. If you ever spray painted, you know you can easily end up with too much paint on one particular area if you don’t move the nozzle quickly. The paint was rippled in some areas. In addition, there were lindts all over the surface. The guy tried to fix the ripples, but he made it worse. I ended up with a huge crater on my sink. He said it is impossible to remove the lindts unless the paint job is done in an industrial environment where there are huge fans to suck the air out. This is not what they had told me when they were getting the job. Anyways…he says he will ask his dad (Dave) to come and fix things.
I then had to wait almost a month to get Dave’s time. First, he cancelled on me in the morning of the appointment date saying that the glossy paint is stuck in customs. I had to take time off from work that day for this job. So it was super inconvenient. We then rebooked. Just half an hour before the appointment time, he told me that he will not come unless I agree to pay him before he commences the work. I asked him if I pay him in advance, how can I be assured that he will take care of the mess his son left me with. He then tells me that it would not work, because he was thinking of sending his son again anyway because Dave apparently lives in Abbotsford and that he would not wanna drive 2 hours for such a small job and bla, bla, bla.
I am speechless! I don’t understand how these people stay in business. Now I have to spend hours trying to find someone else to clean up this mess, if they can at all.
New Drain and Caulking
Saw a good review, should have looked harder. Agreed on $650, for EVERYTHING. Which should have been $400 at the most, but apparently $250 extra because I live in Whistler? When he got here, he tried to charge $800. Eventually argued down to $700, which was supposed to include a NEW drain (an extra $65). -Also, replace all the caulking, as its impossible to do the job properly without doing so. All of this is described on the website, and was agreed to over the phone, and again in person. NONE of these things were done. First, he didnt even have proper tools, I had to go to the hardware store and buy him a drill bit. Then, wasn't even working when I had to come home for something I forgot. I got home after he left, and there was flakes of white stuff all over kitchen and hallways, bathroom still covered in paper and tape. When I finally took the tape off: NO DRAIN. NO CAULK! He didn't even get all the old stuff out! Sprayed (poorly) right over a bunch of it, so now it's even harder for me to get out. And I have to recaulk the whole thing!! Unacceptable. $700 For This!?! I called him to talk about these issues. He offered to send me a cap to put on the drain so it looks new. Really? I paid you an extra $65 so that you would install a NEW drain like you said you would. They only cost about $8, but I figured you charged so much because I know what sort of pain it is to replace sometimes. I have redone a few places, and this guy has been one of the worst I've ever dealt with. Deceptive, overpriced, zero accountability for quality of work, -which, by the way was shotty. Dishonest. Poor workmanship. Worse service. Do yourself a favour and stay far away from Dave Hillyer and Resurface Solutions. No wonder he only takes cash; easier for him to screw you over and get away with it. If I had paid by cheque, I could have stopped payment. Don't give this man any money until the work is done and you are satisfied (which you probably won't be).
Shower Renovation
Dave Hillyer took cash for the job, advised it would be completed in 4-6 hours. He left the home without completing the job and took the cash. He left a note advising he would return in two days leaving the family with not working
shower. He never advised the shower would not be functional. He never advised the job would not be finished in one day. He made me that I should be greatful that he was going to rtn to complete the job and also fix the huge flaw, drip marks he left in my tub for $425. He told me to call back and he hung-up
